Weight of Salt

Custom order policy

Mermaid Friend edition of Weight of Salt. Last updated 8 October 2026

The short version

  • The price is €59.95 plus VAT and shipping to your country. You see the VAT, the shipping and the full total on your invoice and pay link before you pay.
  • Your copy is made to your order with your own photo and name. Because of that, the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply.
  • You can cancel for a full refund at any time before you approve your cover proof.
  • Nothing is printed until you approve the proof. Once you approve it, the order cannot be cancelled.
  • If your copy arrives damaged, misprinted, or not at all, we reprint it or refund you.

This policy gives you the information that European Union and Dutch consumer law require a seller to give before a distance sale. We apply it to every buyer, wherever you live.

2. What you are buying

One paperback copy of Weight of Salt, first edition, with a back cover made for you. The back cover carries your photo, altered so that the lower half of the figure is a mermaid tail, together with the words “Mermaid Friend” and the name you choose.

  • The inside of the book is the same as every other first-edition copy.
  • The copy is unsigned. It is shipped to you directly by the printer.
  • It carries no ISBN or barcode. In their place it is marked hors commerce: a private copy, not for resale.
  • Your cover is produced once, for your copy. It is not offered for sale to anyone else.

3. Price

€59.95 per copy, before VAT. VAT and shipping are added on your invoice. Shipping depends on your country and is calculated for your order. The invoice and pay link we send you show the book price, the VAT, the shipping cost and the total before you pay. There are no other charges from us.

If the parcel is delivered outside the European Union, your country may charge import duty or tax on arrival. Those charges are not included and are yours to pay.

4. How an order is made

  1. You send the order form with your details and one photo. This is a request, not yet an order, and it costs nothing.
  2. We email you an invoice and a pay link showing the VAT and the full total.
  3. When your payment arrives, the contract between us is made. We confirm it by email and attach or link this policy.
  4. We prepare your cover and email you a proof.
  5. You approve the proof by replying to that email. Your copy is then printed and shipped.

5. Your photo

By sending a photo you confirm that:

  • you took it, or you have the photographer’s permission to use it this way;
  • the person pictured is you, or is an adult who has agreed to their image being altered and printed, or is a child under 18 for whom you are the parent or legal guardian;
  • it does not show a celebrity or public figure, and does not show nudity.

The mermaid image is produced with AI image tools and placed on the cover by hand. It is an illustration based on your photo. It will resemble the person pictured but is not a retouched photograph, and small differences in likeness are part of how it is made.

We may decline a photo that we cannot work with or that is not suitable for print. We will ask you for another. If no suitable photo can be found, we cancel the order and refund you in full.

How we store and delete your photo is described in the Privacy policy.

6. Proof and approval

You see your back cover before it is printed. If the name is misspelled, the crop is wrong, or the mermaid image does not look right to you, tell us and we will correct it and send a new proof.

We never print without your approval. Once you approve, the file goes to the printer and can no longer be changed, so please check the spelling of the name with care.

7. No right of withdrawal

For most things bought online, consumers in the EU may withdraw from the purchase within 14 days without giving a reason. That right does not apply to goods made to the buyer’s specifications or clearly personalised (Article 16(c) of Directive 2011/83/EU; Article 6:230p(f)(1) of the Dutch Civil Code).

A Mermaid Friend edition is personalised with your photo and name. By ordering it, you accept that you have no right of withdrawal and cannot return the book for a refund simply because you have changed your mind.

8. Cancelling

Although the law does not require it, you may cancel for a full refund at any time before you approve your cover proof. Write to Editor@TingeWorld.com. We refund the full amount, including shipping, to the payment method you used, within 14 days.

After the proof has been approved, the order cannot be cancelled. Your copy goes to print on your approval. The only exceptions are where we cannot deliver, or where your copy is faulty, as described in sections 9 and 10.

9. Delivery

Printing usually takes 3 to 5 working days after you approve the proof. Delivery time after that depends on your country and the shipping service shown on your pay link. These are estimates.

We will deliver within 30 days of the day you approve your proof. If we do not, you may give us a further reasonable period in writing, and if your copy still has not arrived by the end of it, you may cancel and receive a full refund.

Please give a complete and correct address. If a parcel is returned to the printer because the address was wrong or nobody collected it, we will ask you to pay the cost of sending it again.

10. Damaged, misprinted or missing copies

You are entitled to a book that matches the proof you approved and is free of faults. If your copy arrives damaged or misprinted, email us a photo of the problem as soon as you can. If it has not arrived by the latest date estimated on your pay link, tell us.

We will reprint and reship your copy at no cost to you or, if you prefer, refund you in full. You do not need to send a damaged copy back unless we ask, and if we ask, we pay the postage.

This is your legal guarantee of conformity. It applies for as long as the law of your country provides, and nothing in this policy limits it.

11. Complaints

Write to Editor@TingeWorld.com. A person reads every email and we will answer within 14 days. If we cannot settle it between us, Dutch law applies, and as a consumer you keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country where you live and may go to the courts there. The European Consumer Centre in your country can advise you on cross-border purchases free of charge.
